2009
The Vale wins the Memorial Trophy. Congratulations
There was an excellent turnout for the hotly challenged Memorial trophy with literally not an empty seat left in the house!
Hosted by Cardiff Camera Club this competition for four prints by four different club members was held at the Oakdale Workmen's Institute, National History Museum, St Fagan's, Cardiff on February 1st.
The federation was honoured to once again welcome Lord Dafydd Elis-Thomas, who opened the Welsh Salon 2008, to make the presentation of the Memorial Trophy. Lord Elis-Thomas' speech in Welsh ( with immediate translation) was well received and it is a bonus for Welsh photographers that he is so intersted in photography and very keen to promote Visual Arts throughout Wales.
Cardiff with their excellent support team, led by Martyn Pinches, projected files of the prints onto a very large screen which greatly enhanced everyone's enjoyment of the event. There were also many appreciative comments on the new WPF print stand.
The event came to a nailbiting finish with The Vale, just pipping Tenby to the winning place by one point. Both clubs will now have the honour of representing the federation at Connah's Quay for the PAGB Championships. A delighted Jan Cawley, Chairman of the Vale accepted the trophy, despite nearly having a nervous breakdown as her print was the last up and we all new if it got less than 17 The vale would have lost!!
WPF President Roy Thomas thanked judge Martyn Fry FRPS, APAGB for his erudite remarks and very capable handling of the event.
