1. There is a print competition and a digital image competition. You may enter up to 2 prints and they may be one colour and one monochrome or 2 colour or 2 monochrome. You may also enter 2 Digital Projected Images and they may be one colour and one monochrome or 2 colour or 2 monochrome. 2. Prints should be mounted on 500mm x 400mm board either flat or window mounts are acceptable. Please do not use cellotape, masking tape, parcel tape or anything other than acid-free tape designed for the purpose on the backs of the mounts - it can ruin someone else's print. 3. With every print please also submit a digital version (size as below) since it is increasingly common in external comps to also project the images for the benefit of the spectators who are further from the front. 4. DPIs should be resized to 1920 x 1080 pixels. 5. File names should be constructed to the formula: Title-category-membership No. e.g. Lady in the bath-flora-66.jpg Les Grandes Bainees-open-66.jpg 6. Images must not have been entered in any of the 'monthly' competitions previously. 7. We occasionally have black & white only competitions such as the Mervyn Williams Memorial Trophy. For these, obviously, images with a tint or colour-popping are not allowed.
If you struggle to produce enough images to enter all 6 of our monthly internal competitions don’t worry. Apparently even Ansel Adams would find it difficult. He is reputedly responsible for this quote:
“Twelve significant photographs in any one year is a good crop.”
If one of the most influential American photographers of all time was happy with twelve good images in an entire year, then we should be satisfied with our best 24. We tend to learn more from our ‘mistakes’ than our successes so, enter your best work, listen, with an open mind, to the judges critique and don’t worry so much about its ‘score’.
We source our entries for the external competitions from the highest scoring entries of our internal comps. which gives all members the opportunity to represent our club. Occasionally, however, where high numbers of prints or PDI's are required, we may call for additional images.
By submitting images to competitions, our website or facebook pages you give us the right to use those images to promote the activities of the club.
