The Bridgend Camera Club 5 to 8 Photo Harmony Competition
Saturday afternoon was warm and sunny, and Ed and I met Jane, Terry and Mike (Baker) at Coytrahen Community Centre for the inaugural year of the competition. The judge was Ian Bateman FRPS MPAGB, who had briefly been a member of Bridgend Camera Club many years ago before he moved to Wantage. He is now Chairman of Wantage Camera Club and a member of the RPS Audio Visual Distinctions panel, Committee member of RPS Wessex-DIG and Webmaster of several AV sites. In other words a very busy man, but he was a delightful judge who was extremely constructive in his critique. There was such a wide range of subject matter, music and ideas that I didn`t envy him his task at all.
Congratulations go to Bridgend for planning such a new competition and for running the day so successfully, it was very enjoyable. I do hope that more entries will appear next year as when you work it out with three entries from The Vale and eight from Bridgend the outside entry was pretty thin.
The winning entry was stunning and the landscapes were excellent but they were purely traditional with an excellent standard of photography, and no special effects at all (such as panning, zooming or any other unusual ideas.)
There were 15 entries shown on the day but we had no idea if these were the only entries or whether they were the shortlist – this was not made clear. I suspect that these 15 were the only entries.
There were obviously personal favourites on the day but the winning entry was universally liked by most people.
The Vale members had three entries from Ed, Mike B and Mike D.
The winner was a beautiful collection of Celtic Landscapes put to the relaxing music ‘’Nancy Spain’’ from Phil Coulter`s Timeless Tranquility Album. This was entered by David Neal AFIAP DPAGB BPE4* of Eryri Photo Group, and he was a very worthy winner.
Our very own Mike Baker was the runner-up. Well done Mike !!!!!!
