Refresher for Internal Competitions 2011/2012

As you will know we agreed to experiment with some new rules for the internal competition this year and given that we have only two more monthly competitions before the annual awards, I thought it might be a good idea to refresh members understanding of the rules.

Practicalities have lead to some minor changes along the way but I don’t think any of the changes materially affect the outcome of any element of this years’ competition.

Under these provisions there will be three separate elements to this years’ awards night.

1) The Winner of Winners event for the Robin Powell Trophy

2) A Plate Competition

3) The photographer of the year award

Qualification for each element is as follows:

Robin Powell (Winner of Winners)- We will have held 6 monthly comps this year (including the Black & White comp). Each of these produces 4 section winners, i.e. the highest scoring open print, open DPI, set subject print & set subject DPI. The 24 winners will be eligible for the Robin Powell (Winner of Winners) competition. The original DPI’s and prints as entered will compete on equal terms and there will be only one winner. Clearly one member may have more than one entry in this event dependant on their results in earlier monthly comps.

On the same evening there will be a Plate Competition. No member who qualifies for the Robin Powell event above will be eligible for the plate competition. Any member who does not qualify for the Robin Powell event will be eligible to enter the plate competition. Each qualifying member may submit one print or DPI in the plate competition. Entries to the plate competition may be, new work, old work, reworked old work, or to put it simply any work that has not been entered into a monthly comp prior to 1st September 2011. DPI’s and prints will compete against each other on equal terms and there will be only one winner.

Finally there will be an award for the Photographer of the Year. This will be for the member who accumulated the most points in the six monthly internal competitions. Results of the Robin Powell and the plate will not count for this award, simply because I will not have the time or opportunity on the night to recalculate the totals and all of the winner of winners will be duplicates and it would be unfair to count their score twice.
