Vale Photographic Club Internal Club Comps 2017/18
After Friday night’s presentation I’d just like to reiterate some details about forthcoming Internal Competitions, and a few new tweaks to the submissions procedure. Apologies to our longer standing members who will already know some of the following information but I hope it helps those that are not so familiar with the procedures.
Our first Internal Competition of the year is on October 13th and will be judged by Nick Jenkins. This will be an Open competition, so anything you like, in colour or monochrome. A maximum of two prints are allowed. This could be two colour or two mono, or one colour and one mono. You are also allowed a maximum of two projected digital images (PDI’s), in the same combination as above.
In previous years the hand in/deadline date has been set 2 weeks prior to the competition. However this year we’ve brought forward the deadline day by 1 week. The hand in deadlines will now be 3 weeks prior to competition judging. (And 4 weeks for Comp 4 in January/February). So Competition 1 hand in deadline is Friday 22nd September.
Following the deadline date, I will collate all images, prints and PDI’s and a list will be published in the following days, on the club website in the Comps section. Please check this, to see that all your images have been received and are correctly listed. It’ll be your responsibility to check. If you have submitted images and they don’t appear in the list or if the information is incorrect then please contact me ASAP on the firstname.lastname@example.org email. This email is also listed on the website. The images will be sent to the judge on the weekend (7 days) after deadline day, so you only have a few days to check your details.
Projected Digital Image Submissions (PDI or sometimes referred to as DPI)
For PDI submissions we’ve returned to the online submission system, through the club website. Terry has set up a form under the COMPS>Comps-Internal> tab where you can upload your PDI images. This is in a protected area of the website and will require a password. This can be found on the Programme card issued when you paid your subs. It’s also on the website in the usual place. If you can’t find it please email me.
Your uploaded images will be forwarded to me. The web form has several fields to fill in, for your Name, Club Member number, Comp number (1-6), and Image Title. Two small buttons give you a choice of either open or set subject And a button to choose the image that you wish to upload. You can upload up to two images; by using the two sections on the page. Uploaded submission will be accepted up to midnight of the deadline day.
For newer members’ information, images must be re-sized to enable proper projection on the competition night. The maximum sizes are 1920px by 1080px. at 72dpi. If you resized your image to have the longest side at 1920px you may find that the shorter edge is larger than 1080px. You must then re-size this shorter side to 1080px even if that means the longer edge is now less than 1920px. You will find this to be the case most times. The exception will be panorama images were you can achieve a longer edge of 1920px without the shorter side being greater than 1080px. If you are have trouble resizing, then please still submit the image and I’ll re-size it when I receive it.
Can I please re-emphasise that the file name of your image(s) should also contain not only the image title but also the comp section (open/set subject, or open colour/open mono) and you club number. It should read: Title-Comp Section-Club Number.jpg
For example: Summer Sun-Open Colour-64.jpg or Autumn Leaves-Open Mono-64.jpg This file name is all the judge sees to identify your image(s). Please don’t just use the image title.
Labels for Print submissions
For print submission we’ve now produced a labelling system so that you can fill in all your details, so that hopefully, it will be easier for us and the judge to read and is set out in a uniform manner.
Every member who wants to enter competitions will be given enough sticky labels for the full season. That’s 12 labels – 2 prints in 6 comps. We will have labels ready to give out to you at Friday’s (16th) meeting. If you can’t be there then let me know and we’ll sort something out. I will always have a few spares on the deadline night. Labels must be placed on the back of the mounted print in the top left corner.
If any one has any questions please do email me.
